Almancil is a small town in the Algarve region, the extreme south of Portugal – approx. 14 km northwest of the regional capital Faro.It has about 9,000 inhabitants (2010). The town is relatively high a few kilometers north of the coast, and is known both to offer a warm climate all year round – and to be a center for real estate / sale of holiday homes in the Algarve region.
In the town there are two rental sites that are under continuous development: Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo. More interior designers and interior design firms are also located Almancil.
Of historical interest in Almancil, it is first and foremost Sao Lourenzo Church from the 1700s that attracts attention. Much of the interior is covered with ceramic tiles. It is regarded as a typical example of the Algarve architecture.
Almancil is also known for its football stadium – Estádio Algarve – which was one of the most popular venues as European Football Championship held in Portugal in 2004.Estádio Algarve has a spectator capacity of 30,000.
