Bucharest, Romania capital and largest city, is located on the Valakiske plain southeast of the country.The city has 2,000,000 inhabitants, while the metropolitan area has a population of 2.4 million (2011).

Bucharest is the country’s economic, administrative and cultural center, and is also an important traffic hub. The town has broad industry – the production of such textiles, chemicals and machinery.

Bucharest has a number of attractions, including the Old Town “Lipscani” – with its small shops and cozy sidewalk cafés. The city also has theaters, opera and numerous museums. Here, the historical museum, open air museum “Muzeul Satului” and the National Art Museum mentioned. The latter has a large collection of both Romanian and foreign art.

The capital’s biggest tourist attraction, however, Parliament Palace (also known as “Ceausescu’s Palace”).

The palace is one of the largest administrative buildings, and was officially opened in 1984. Tourists / visitors with access to parts of the palace.

Arc de Triomphe “Arcul de Triumf” from 1935 also recommended a visit. It was erected in memory of Romania the winners of the first World War. Another attraction is the beautiful concert hall “Ateneul Roman” from 1888.

The city’s airport is Henri Coanda International Airport, located 17 km north of downtown.
