The city of Coventry is located in the county and the region West Midlands of England, and has approximately 310,000 inhabitants (2008).It was founded as early as the 1000’s.

The town was for many years the center of an extensive automobile and bicycle manufacturing. The city’s first automobile factory was established in 1896. Today, much of the automotive industry moved away from Coventry, but Jaguar still has its headquarters here – and the famous London taxis are still being produced in Coventry (London Taxis International).

A popular attraction in Coventry reflection of the automotive history – the Coventry Transport Museum. Here visitors can experience a large collection of historical models of the type Jaguar, Aston Martin and Lotus. The museum has free admission.

The most famous person who may be linked to Coventry’s history, the legendary Lady Godiva who, according to legend, rode naked through the town once in the 1000’s. This should have been a protest against the high taxes that her husband, Leofric, had imposed on residents. In the city center is therefore a statue of Lady Godiva – and Godiva procession since the end of the 1600s was an important program item under Coventry’s annual market.

Airport Coventry Airport located 5.6 km southeast of the city. However, this was discontinued in 2008, and it is uncertain whether the airport will be reopened to regular traffic.

Closest major airport is Birmingham International Airport, located 18 km northwest of Coventry.
