Geneva Cointrin International Airport (GVA) is located 5 km northwest of Geneva city center.
The northern part of the airport runs along the border with France (a little on French territory), and therefore used by both Switzerland and France.In practice, the airport is physically divided into a Swiss and a French part. One can after landing choose to go through French or Swiss passport control. If you choose French passport control, one can travel by bus, taxi or car to France without passing Swiss passport or customs control.
Geneva Airport was established in 1919 and has over the years been upgraded and expanded. Today it is one of the busiest in Switzerland, and annually served 12 million passengers here.
