Greece is situated in southeast Europe and to the very south of the Balkans. In addition, the country has a number of larger and smaller islands in the Aegean Sea, the island of Crete. Mainland of   Greece is bordered by Albania in the northwest, the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey   in the east. The population is around 10, 8 million (2010), and the country covering an area of approx. 132   000 km ².In the capital   Athens is home to 745,500 people (3.5 million if the entire metropolitan area are included).

Other major cities are Thessaloniki and Piraeus on the mainland, Heraklion ( Iraklion ) on Crete and Rhodes town on the island of Rhodes .

The landscape in both the Greece and in many of the islands (egCrete) consists of a lot of mountain – with several peaks reaching up to between 2000 and 3000 meters.

Greece has a number of historical attractions to offer – many dating back to ancient times – and a number of them UNESCO World Heritage Site. This includes the Acropolis in Athens, remnants of the Minoan culture on Crete (Knossos bl.a.palasset) – which is from the period between ca. 2000 and 1450 BC Kr.

The main airport in Greece, Eleftherias Veniselos International Airport , located a few miles east of Athens.Otherwise, the airports at   Rhodes and Crete very busy – and has a large tourist traffic in the summer.
