Hamrun is a city located in the eastern central part of Malta – 4 km southwest of the capital Valletta.Hamrun has a population of about 8800 (2010) – and the city is first and foremost for its many religious festivities.
Hamrun has a number of beautiful churches, where the first one is Our Lady of Atocja Chapel from the 1600s. Another important church bears the long name of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. Each year – on a Wednesday in the “passion time” – there are a huge procession from this church through the main street “Strada Rjali”.
Another saint who is celebrated in Hamrun, St. Cajetan. It is celebrated big parties for him every first Sunday after 7 august. When there are many people who flock to Hamrun, and trade in the city is lively. In addition to the feast of St. Cajetan, celebrated a feast for the “Immaculate Conception” both on the first Sunday in July and the 8th December – and the local commitment is formidable.
