The port city of Helsingborg is located in southern Sweden, more specifically on the west coast of Skåne. The city is situated where the Øresund (sea area between Sweden and Denmark) at its narrowest (4 km). There are frequent ferries between Helsingborg, Sweden and Helsingør in Denmark.

The city has about 97,000 inhabitants (2011).

Helsingborg is a major transportation hub and has also Sweden’s second largest port (by Gothenburg ).

The city has a rich cultural life with theaters, concert halls, museums and art galleries. Helsingborg is known for its attractive beaches along the coast, and many tourists come to the city in the summer sun and beach holiday.

One of its most popular tourist attractions are the castle tower “Karnan” from the 1300s. This is a remnant of the old fortifications. The tower is open to the public, and from the top you have a fabulous view of Helsingborg.

Other attractions in the city include Frederiksdal Open Air Museum – with historical buildings and Botanical Gardens, Town Hall 1857, St Mary’s Church from the 1400s and Dunkers Culture – a central institution for art, music and cultural history.

Helsingborg also has a medical history museum, a school museum and a sports museum.

Approximately 5 km north of the city lies the castle Sofiero – former royal summer residence. Here visitors can also stroll in the beautiful castle garden.

Helsingborg also has a rich and varied nightlife and good shopping. Passengers traveling to Helsingborg with children should visit the “Tropikariet”. Here you can see a variety of exotic animals – including crocodiles and snakes.
