The port city of Huelva is located in southwestern Spain by Cádizbukta, and is the capital of the province of Huelva.The city belongs to the Andalucia region, and has approximately 150,000 inhabitants (2011). If it is estimated metropolitan area, the population is increasing to almost 240,000.
Huelva is geographically located only 55 km west of the border with neighboring Portugal, and 70 km west of the Spanish city of Seville.
The city lies at the confluence Odiel and Tinto empties into the Atlantic Ocean, and is an important commercial center for the region. Along the coast there are many beautiful beaches, as both tourists and locals use diligent summer.
Huelva is known for being home to Spain’s oldest football club – “Recreativode Huelva”.
Near the town is the Monastery of La Rabida – where Christopher Columbus found refuge in 1484. The town is also a monument dedicated to the famous explorer.
Other tourist attractions in Huelva are among other theater “Gran Theatre” from 1923, the church “Sanctuario de Nuestra Senora de la Cinta” from the 1400s, the church “Iglesia de la Concepción” from 1515 and the historical museum “Museo de Huelva” – with its interesting archaeological collections. The museum also features art exhibits.
Huelva also has a number of parks and recreation areas – including city park “Moret” with its artificial lake and sculpture park “Harvest”.
It is also great shopping in Huelva with shops, markets and shopping centers.
