The port city of Liverpool is located in northwest England – About where the River Mersey flows into the Irish Sea. The city is located in the English county of Merseyside, and has approx. 470,000 inhabitants (2008). If it is estimated metropolitan area, the population is increasing to almost 1.3 million.

Liverpool has the second largest export port in the UK, and is emerging as a modern city. A famous landmark of the port area is the 90 meter high skyscraper “Royal Liver Building” from 1911.

The city is maybe best known for being home to the football club Liverpool FC and Everton FC and its rich music and nightlife. In 2008, Liverpool (along with Stavanger ) named the European Capital of Culture.

A major tourist attraction in the city’s Albert Dock – where you can find restored warehouses, examples shops, restaurants, pubs, hotels, galleries and museums. Why not try visit The Beatles Museum, Tate Liverpool, a maritime museum and a slave museum.

Other attractions include Liverpool City Hall from 1754, the Museum of Liverpool and Walker Art Gallery – one of the largest collections of British art, paintings and sculptures from the 1400s until today.

The city’s international airport – John Lennon Airport – located 12 miles southeast of downtown.
