Midrand is a former independent city in the South African Gauteng province, which currently has the status of an urban area in the Johannesburg region.It is located between the towns of Johannesburg and Pretoria, and the area, which has around 175,000 inhabitants (2010), in other words, a central location in the country.
Midrand’s most famous landmark is the large water tower from the late 1990’s.
Many international companies have established themselves in Midrand – primarily because of its strategic location between two of South Africa’s major cities. This includes the Audi, T-Systems, Bosch, Siemens, BMW, Canon and Osram.
The Pan-African Parliament of the African Union in 2008 moved its headquarters from Addis Ababa to Midrand – and this is also the largest conference center in South Africa – Gallagher Estate.
Otherwise, it can be mentioned that Midrand is a center for motorsport. Here is the only Grand Prix circuit in South Africa – Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.
Midrand is in constant growth, and the central area has a very modern, architectural feel.
