Montevideo is a major port and around the city is the large agricultural areas. Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires is just a three-hour boat ride from Montevideo.

Most residents of Montevideo has roots from European immigrants, and a third is of Italian descent. Montevideo is the birthplace of various musical styles such as tango, candombe and Murga, in Montevideo, there are many opportunities to experience the various styles. In February each year held the carnival where music plays a very big role.

18 de Julio, the city’s main street and known as one of the finest in South America, stretching from Plaza Independencia at the edge of Ciudad Vieja, Old Town, the district Cordón.

In Montevideo there are several beautiful beaches. Along the coast is the 22 km long Rambla de Montevideo.
