Riihimäki is a city and municipality in the southern part of Finland, about 70 kilometers north of Helsinki city has a population of 29,053 (2012) inhabitants.
Riihimäki was established in connection with the building of railways and the creation of Riihimäki railway station in 1862. This is a station on the Helsinki-Hämeenlinna line which is the main train service in Finland. In 1870 the railway line to St. Petersburg started.
Riihimäki is famous for its glass factory that made both high quality glass and more common glass. The factory was closed in 1990, and now there’s a glass museum in the city. Today, the wood and furniture industry remains important. The city also Art Museum and hunting museum. Hunting and manufacture of firearms is also an important industry.
