Kosice in the east of Slovakia by the river Hornad – only 25 km from the border with Hungary .The city is the country’s second largest city after Bratislava, and has 234,000 inhabitants (2011).

Old Town of Kosice is a major tourist attraction with its well-preserved historic buildings. Here is example one of Slovakia’s most beautiful and largest cathedrals – St. Elisabeth Cathedral – which was built in the period 1378 to 1508. Also St. Michael’s chapel from the 1300s is worth a visit. The chapel is the second oldest building.

Art-lovers should visit the East Slovak Gallery – which was founded in 1951. This is Slovakia’s first art gallery, and has more than 6,000 works of art – created by regional artists in the period 1400-1900’s.
