Abu Dhabi is both a city and one of the seven emirates that comprise the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East. The city is the country and the emirate’s capital, is located on a peninsula on the country’s central west coast of the Persian Gulf. The peninsula is connected to the mainland by three bridges.

Abu Dhabi has 621,000 inhabitants (2012) and is one of the most modern and richest cities in the world.

The cityscape is characterized by high-rise buildings and skyscrapers, but also has many palaces and buildings with Arabic features.

Abu Dhabi is the country’s political, cultural, industrial and commercial center. The city is the seat of government and the oil industry. Abu Dhabi is home to a number of international embassies.

A landmark in the town is the impressive Sheik Zayed mosque in white marble, which was completed in 2007. This is one of the world’s largest mosques, which seats 40,000 people.

Other tourist attractions in Abu Dhabi include amusement park “Ferrari World”, the public beaches along the coast with the beautiful promenade and a zoo.

An entire neighbourhood – Saadiyat Island – Abu Dhabi is under development and will be devoted entirely art and culture. Once the site is completed, you will be able to visit the National Museum, a maritime museum, Guggenheim Abu Dhali and Louvre Abu Dhali.

The city has otherwise great shopping opportunities with several major shopping centers.

Abu Dhabi International Airport is located 43 km southeast of downtown.
