Honolulu is the capital and largest city in the archipelago of Hawaii, which is one of the U.S. states. Honolulu is located on the southeast coast of the island of Oahu in the Pacific Ocean and is an important port city. The city has 337,000 inhabitants (2010) – where 55% of them are Asian.

Honolulu is the archipelago’s administrative, political, economic and cultural center, and is also an important transport hub.

The city is famous for its tourist area Waikiki – located 5 miles southeast of downtown Honolulu. Here are white and inviting sandy beaches – including the famous Waikiki Beach, luxury hotels, zoo and aquarium.

Surfing, sun and swimming are the main attraction here.

Other popular tourist attractions in Honolulu include the 56 meter high tower “Aloha Tower” from 1926 – where the public can get up to the top and get a great view of the city and harbor, the Royal Palace ‘Iolani Palace “from 1882,” The Contemporary Museum “- with exhibitions of contemporary art, church “Cathedral Church of St. Andrew” from 1867, Town China Town – with lively markets and restaurants, and Bishop Museum – a building with a large collection of artifacts from Hawaii. There is also a planetarium, a natural history museum and a volcano museum.

“Honolulu Academy of Arts” also recommended a visit. This is the largest art museum in the city, and here’s bl. exhibitions of Asian art and works of famous masters such as Picasso, van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne, Monet and Modigliani.

Honolulu has otherwise good shopping with many shopping malls.

Honolulu International Airport is located 10 miles northwest of downtown.
