Kansas City is located in the state of Missouri by the Missouri River. The city has around 450,000 inhabitants (2010), while the metropolitan area has a population of 2 million.

Kansas City was founded in 1821 – the same year as the state of Missouri entered the union – and is today an important industrial city and a major traffic hub. Besides, the city is an education center with a university, a conservatory and several colleges.

The different areas of the city lies in a ring around Downtown, and was the subject of extensive renovations in the 1980s. Much of Kansas City is characterized today by modern high-rise buildings with offices, hotels, restaurants, and shops.

Kansas City was the period from the 1920s to the 1940s known as “jazz mecca”, and there are still a number of jazz clubs in Downtown trying to continue that legacy.

One of the main attractions in town is the prestigious art gallery “Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.” There are also several other interesting galleries and museums in Kansas City. The city’s main building is the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, which after ferdigstillellsen in 1973 includes a dual stadium for baseball and American football.

The nearest airport is Kansas City International Airport, located 24 km northwest of the city center.
