Salt Lake City is the capital of the state of Utah, and is located at the Jordan River – not far from the lake Great Salt Lake. The city is located in a large valley in the Rocky Mountains area – approx. 1400 m

Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002. The town is an important transport hub and commercial center, and has a diverse industry.

Salt Lake City was founded in 1847 and has since been the center of the Mormon church. Approx. 51% of the city’s residents belong to the religious community of Mormons and in the area “Temple Square” are a number of tourist attractions. Here is example Salt Lake Temple, which is Mormonism main temple from 1893, a historical museum dedicated to the religious community as well as “The Mormon Tabernacle” from 1867 – home to the famous choir “Tabernacle Choir”.

Other attractions in the city include City Hall from 1894, the government built state “Utah State Capitol” from 1912, the Fine Arts “Utah Museum of Fine Arts” – with exhibitions of national and international art, science, art and technology museum “Leonardo” and the sculpture park “Gilgal”.

The city has otherwise a zoo, a planetarium, a military museum and a natural history museum.

Salt Lake City International Airport is located 12 miles west of downtown.
