San Antonio is located in southern United States, and is the second largest city in the state of Texas.The city is located at the San Antonio River – about 300 miles west of Houston. San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the U.S., and has 1.3 million inhabitants (2011). If it is estimated metropolitan area population rises to 2.2 million.

San Antonio is an important educational and commercial center and a transportation hub. The city expects to be one of America’s most attractive cities, and is a popular tourist destination. San Antonio receives about 20 million visitors annually.

The city offers a number of preserved historic buildings – including the Spanish Governor’s Palace from 1749 and San Antonio’s Cathedral from 1731.

A major tourist attraction in San Antonio’s Alamo – a national historic monument where the “Battle of the Alamo” occurred in 1836. The building here was originally a mission station from the 1700s, and today houses a museum.

Other attractions in the city include “Sea World of Texas” – where you can experience the dolphin show, San Antonio Museum of Art – with exhibitions of Latin American folk art and the beautiful promenade “Paseo del Rio” along the river in downtown. It is also popular bars, restaurants and shops – and the area are sometimes simply called the “River Walk”.

The city is otherwise a transportation museum, a botanical garden, zoological park, a Japanese garden and water park “Splash Town” – with both wave pool and water slides.

San Antonio International Airport is located 13 miles north of downtown.
