Zug is situated in northern Switzerland, and is the administrative center of the canton of the same name.The city lies on the banks of Zugersjøen – approx. 30 km south of Zurich.There are about 26,000 residents in the Zug (2010).

Zug is one of the richest cantons in Switzerland. It is primarily due to the low level of taxation, which has made a number of international companies have established themselves here.

As in many other Swiss cities, it is a well-preserved medieval city of Zug. Here are parts of the old city walls from the 1500s intact – and some as old burgher. Otherwise, there are several individual buildings in the city which are popular tourist destinations – including St. Oswald’s Church, which was built between 1478 and 1545. It is considered to be one of the most impressive buildings in Switzerland from the late Gothic era. Also the town hall from 1505 is well worth a visit.

Otherwise Castle (elders parts from 1000’s) where the Palace Museum – is one of Zugs landmarks. From here there are fantastic views of the city and Zugersjøen. Another landmark, the clock tower “Zytturm” from the 1300s. This also includes an astronomical clock.

There are also several interesting museums in Zug, including The past history museum – with exhibits relating to the Ice Age, the Stone and Bronze Age.

The nearest airport is Zürich-Kloten International Airport, located 50 km north of Zug.
